Overview

The City of Georgetown 2030 Comprehensive Plan is an overarching long-term plan for the future of Georgetown. The document contains the goals, policies and overall vision for a growing community, while maintaining the quality of life, history and charm of the city. The Georgetown plan will continue to be strengthened through careful planning, persistent implementation, new Plan Elements, and annual updates of the ongoing results of its policies and actions.
History
In 1986, the residents of Georgetown decided that an ongoing, functioning comprehensive plan was a necessity for the City, adopting it as a requirement in the City Charter. The first plan, called the Century Plan, was adopted in 1988 and laid the groundwork for Georgetown’s transition into a new century. After twenty years and numerous changes to the community and its projected growth, the time had come for a new vision. The 2030 Plan was completed in February 2008 after a year-long collaboration by a citizen-led steering committee, an outside consultant and extensive community input. The plan is designed to help carry out the long-term vision of the community and yet be adaptable to changing conditions and new opportunities.
